The Story Behind the Photograph #4

“Going Places” was shot on a cable car in New Orleans, Louisiana during the French Quarter Jazz Fest in April 2026.  I was with friends heading back to downtown after a delicious breakfast at Camellia Grill near Tulane University.  As we boarded, my friends headed to the back of the packed cable car where there were limited seats and I was able to grab the first seat that became available near the front.  After a few stops, a seat opened up in the back next to my friends.  As I was starting to move back to be near them, this really cool woman stood up to ready herself for the next stop.  And I immediately became transfixed on her attire and persona.  The front of her face never became visible to me, but the view from her back was enough to grab my attention.  Everything about her brought back fond memories of how I similarly dressed 50+ years ago.  Needless to say, I never had her fantastic figure or her long hair.  But the platform shoes, yes; the bulky socks, yes; the hot pants, yes; the black tights, yes. And I knew that wherever she was going, she was going to have fun.  As I was watching her, my imagination started to run a little wild – was she a singer in one of the bands for the Jazz Fest? She had her suitcase in tow – was she heading out to some exotic place to celebrate spring break?  Did she just break up with her boyfriend and was heading for greener pastures?  All of that didn’t matter as I quickly grabbed my camera and got the shot just in time before she disappeared.
