The Story Behind the Photograph #9

Blackpool 29 June 2019
I captured this image after a frustrating day of traipsing round Blackpool attempting to find relevant street compositions for my documentary project, The Other Blackpool, about real life beyond the promenade of what is England’s most iconic seaside town. Although I was tired and irritated, I decided to walk round the central pier once more before calling it a day. As I reached the end of the pier this scene presented itself, and my tiredness and irritation immediately dissipated.
As I photographed the two women, taking in the small details of the composition, I smiled inwardly because it was an archetypal Blackpool scene that immediately transported me back to my childhood. I was brought up in Salford, Greater Manchester, and Blackpool was a frequent holiday destination. I have since then rediscovered the town as a great destination for street photography.
Apart from the joy of discovering this scene, I was also reminded that in street photography whilst patience and persistence can pay off, sometimes we just get lucky!
